Cleaning the Basement: Work Begins

Monday, after work, Liz and I spent a little time doing some re-organization. We discussed trying to set up more of an “official” plan to work on the house during the week, and settled on two days during the work week… and a Saturday.

So when we got home, we started to move some things from the basement up to the Guest Room (which we had cleared up recently, as our new temporary storage area).

A small stack of wood, trim, and doors/windows, nestled nicely against the wall. Beyond the wall studs is our future office, which is currently jam packed with pretty much everything else we own (but haven’t unboxed yet, since our move-in).

The SW corner of the basement, tidied-up a bit more. The mule (pipe-threading machine) will stay here for a bit longer still, so that guy remains in place for now.

We’ll be slowly making our way around the basement, throwing away junk and moving what we can upstairs. The ultimate goal will be to clear things out as much as possible, so we can then begin to power wash the walls and floor.

Once the floor’s done, we would need to epoxy everything… but that requires a warm enough day where we can turn off the heater. So that might be further down the line. If we power wash though, that might open the possibility for us to start moving boxes back down into the basement for storage. And then allow us to tackle the upstairs in earnest.
