Liz’s Birthday Night Out: Three Dots and a Dash, Chicago Pizza and Oven Grinder Co.

lizBirthdayThreeDotsDash_01
On Sunday, Liz and I went out with Julie and Bob to celebrate Liz’s birthday. Though her actual birthday is the 27th, last Sunday ended up working out best for our schedules – and for us to be able to get in to Three Dots and a Dash.

We had trouble finding it at first, until we learned the entrance was around back – in the alley.

Descending down the stairs…

A slightly closer look. If you’re curious to see the full menu, you can check it out here.

My drink choice was “The Painkiller.”

Side note: those puffed chips, and the guacamole with pineapple? This would be the first bit of wheat and fruit that Liz and I have had, since we started South Beach. Tonight, we were… taking a bit of a break.

Also: just remembered, rather randomly, that the last time I think I had tiki drinks was way back in 2005, at a place called Hala Kahiki.

Julie and Liz split a drink made for two (the Chief Lapu Lapu). I believe Bob dipped into the “high octane” area of the menu and got the Mai Tai.

The top of my second drink: the epoymous “Three Dots and a Dash.” When letting everyone else have a taste, mine seemed to be the crowd favorite of the night.

Looking at the walls, and trying to imagine what it would take to convert our basement into a tiki themed bar.

Similar to our visit to The Violet Hour with Julie and Bob… by the time we emerged from our boozing, we were surprised to find ourselves in daylight still.

We trekked further north to Chicago Pizza and Oven Grinder Co., as per Liz’s request. They don’t take reservations, so we had a bit of a wait.

Looking in from the waiting area. There was an older man who asked us how many we had in our party, and after that… that was it! No computer, no writing any names down. He was there throughout the night, helping to seat people in the order they arrived – and he did it all by memory. It was really impressive, and you could tell he’d been doing this for a really, really long time.

Not the best photos in the world, but we all got a 1/2 pound pizza pot pie.

An indulgent meal, after an indulgent night out.

    • I love that our drinking bill was higher than our eating bill.
