Drinks with Andrew

Met up with Andrew after work at Cindy’s, to just chat and hang out a bit.

It struck me (after we both participated in Bad Poetry Night) that we mostly chatted within the context of projects20×2 Chicago, Tuesday Funk, etc).

So this was a good excuse to just get together and talk a bit, outside of “work,” so to speak.

We spent the first part of the evening out on the deck, looking over Millennium Park and the lake. My fear of heights kicked in pretty quickly, though I was able to ignore it (pushing back against the glass helped).

I was reminded of being at the edge of the Grand Canyon, and how it was both beautiful and terrifying at the same time.

I think all the people standing near the edge helped. If I could have seen clear through, that probably would have driven me back inside for safety.

The place was pretty swamped, but gradually died down over the next hour. Given how nice the day was, it made sense so many people would flock here to be outside (and for the view).

Later, we headed downstairs, grabbed another drink from the Game Room, and settled into some of the lush couches just outside the entrance.

We kept joking that we needed cigars, and that the room felt like a kind of “Explorers’ Club” setting.

We hit a ton of topics over the course of the evening: scotch, smoking (cigars as well as pipes), Chicago, journalism, our mutual admiration of Peter Nickeas, the end of Gapers Block and managing “down time,” the never-ending work that is home ownership.

We parted ways a bit after 9PM, though I could have easily seen us continuing to talk for another two hours. Fun topics and fun conversations.

Note to self: next time, bring the treasure map so we can talk logistics.
