Reigns: Swipe-Based Monarchy Roguelike, with No Small Amount of Regicide
I came across Reigns just yesterday, and was immediately hooked. It’s so much fun!
You play as the king, making decisions regarding how you want to run your kingdom. You have a series of advisers (and enemies) requesting your decisions.
What you decide has a direct impact on the “resources” you need to keep an eye on: The Church, The People, The Army, and The Money. Each decision you make can hurt or help these resources, so you need to weigh your decisions accordingly.
On top of that, the choices you make can continue well beyond your lifetime. Once you die (and believe me, this happens a lot in the game), you continue the gameplay as the next king. A decision to create a hospital now could influence generations to come.
The game controls are really simple (and, as I understand it, similar to Tinder). Swipe right for yes, swipe left for no.
I’ve been playing this a lot over the last 24 hours, and am just starting to find it a little repetitive. But the sheer delight I experienced up until now has made the price of the app worth every penny.
The game is available in a variety of formats, but it really seems ideal to play on a mobile device.
Also – obligatory Simpsons referene.
