Visiting Sears HQ
Went up to Hoffman today, to attend a Town Hall meeting. It’s kind of a long slug to get up there (it’s past Barrington, where I used to work)… but the actual facilities are something to behold.
Most of these photos are from a prior visit, but they still don’t quite do the whole place justice. It’s a campus to be sure, and it’s just a sprawling series of buildings. I’ve only been up here a handful of times, and I get lost every time I go in.
Once you’re past the main lobby, escalators take you to the rest of the building.
The main atrium, which has a lot of trees.
An old buggy that we used to sell from the catalog.
Part of a series of older vehicles on display, that we used to sell in the Sears catalog.
Did I mention all the trees?
Here’s where I camped out for part of the morning, doing a bit of work while waiting for a meeting. While it wasn’t super comfortable, I do have to say the sound of running water in the background was a nice change.
There are lots of amenities inside this place – a mini convience store, coffee shops, a cafeteria will all sorts of made-to-order food.
One nice thing about today’s Town Hall – I was given a recognition award, along with 11 other people (all of us from different parts of the company).
The internal program has a few tiers of recognition, each with a monetary prize that accompanies the award. For my part, my particular award grants me the option of either $500 in gift cards, or $750 in Shop Your Way points (SYW being the loyalty program that is used by Sears, Kmart, and many other places).
While there are others I work with who I believe are more deserving of this award, I’m happy to work at a place that has this kind of program in place. I am very flattered to have been a recipient.
