Second Column, Second Pour
Though we were both a little tired, Liz and I suited up after work and went down to the basement to keep the house train going. With the concrete set from Saturday’s pour, we got things ready for the second pour.
Liz, prepping the water for our cement mix. It’s worth noting that, while we’ve done a lot with the cement mixer on our own… tonight marked our first night mixing up actual cement without Bob supervising. It was a rat pour, but it felt nice for us to be able to do it on our own.
We had a few older bags of cement that had been sitting around a while. They felt like they had absorbed some moisture and turned into gigantic paperweights… but with a few drops to the ground, we were able to break up the bags again and mix them up without much hassle.
Here, Liz is making sure we have the right water/cement ratio going.
Almost to the top! I actually didn’t get a photo of the second pour when we were fully done, but you get the idea. We went through two bags total, and had extra cement (which we dumped along the exterior of the blue ring).
In a few days, we’ll be ready to support a second column. And after that, we can fill in this area and get closer to the final cement pour that will mark the final stages of the basement!
