Getting Off the Couch and Back On the Couch to 5K
Liz and I are giving the Couch to 5K thing another go. She’s been itching to be more active, and I’m usually the one who drags his feet on this kind of thing. But in talking this past week, we both decided that more motion in our lives would be a good thing.
Ideally, this is more than just the program – and the start of running as a regular part of our week. We’ll see how this goes.
We did this before (can’t believe it was five years ago), but that was a different neighborhood and a different time. Liz was in training for a 5K, and we had the whole of Logan Boulevard to do our laps.
While we had a good routine down before, this morning was a kind of test to see how early we needed to start in order to get the run in, get home to shower, make breakfast, and then get out the door in time for work.
After this morning, I think Liz found us a great path. We’ll see how this evolves over time/distance, as Liz tends to enjoy variety in her path… and me, I prefer the same route.
The first day was touch and go for both of us. It felt easy to me at first, then my lungs were on fire after the second round… and then things started to ease and settle down a bit.
I was never much of a runner, and I definitely had a hard time when things shifted gears in Week 4/5. So we’ll see how this goes. I didn’t make it to the full 5K the last time around, so here’s hoping I fare better the second time.
