Half Days

While I did get some rest over the weekend, it was also a fairly busy time. In addition to working Saturday, I did a lot of errands as well. Sunday night, when I put my head on my pillow… it prompted a great deal of coughing. I didn’t get a great night’s sleep.

So much so that on Monday morning, I was waiting to buy some cough medicine before the start of the day. The past few nights (since last Thursday), I’ve been taking NyQuil at night to help sleep. Yesterday, I finally needed something for my cough during the day.

All told, things got fairly better mid-morning. But I decided to take a half-day on Monday, which is a rare move for me. I’m fortunate that my job allows me to work remotely, but oftentimes when I’m sick… I’ll just work from my desk at home, even when I’m sick.

In the past, I’d actually step away from the computer only when my head was fuzzy, and I wasn’t able to think well. This week though, I’m trying to be more active about stepping back. And actually resting when I do feel like I could use the rest.

I’m doing the same thing again today: work in the AM from home, then taking the remainder of the day off to rest. My cough began to sound really bad yesterday afternoon, but seems to have improved as of this morning. I feel better as of writing this, but still not 100%.

Oh, and a fun news item: Liz went in for a doc appointment today, because she wasn’t feeling well since last week. She’s had a lingering sore throat, and the verdict as of today: strep.

So we’re technically eating healthier than we ever have been, but something’s knocked us both down these last two weeks. So it goes.

Though I meant to sign off today around noon, I ended up working until around 1:45. Not terrible, but also not great. Still, I feel like I’m forcing myself (and it realy does feel like forcing) to just ease up a bit on the compulsion to work. And to feel that it’s ok to relax a little bit, and just do nothing. Because that’s probably what my body needs.

Personally, I think we’re getting sick because we stopped drinking any wine when we started South Beach. But this is why I haven’t gone to see my doctor yet – we disgree on small stuff like this.
