John Mark Nelson: You Are the One

Browsing around some recommended songs from Spotify, I chanced across this lovely tune from John Mark Nelson called “You Are the One.”

The song is catchy, lovely, and something I’ve had on repeat for days now. I definitely have an itch to learn how to play this on the guitar.

You are the one
I wanna watch it all burn down with
You are the one
I’d say I love you with my final breath
You are the one
If I could only have one last wish
When this life’s done, we’ll share another one after death

The simplicity of the lyrics, the lullaby-esque melodies, it just feels like a perfect song that captures the residue of 2020. In a lot of ways, it feels like a more wholesome version of Father John Misty’s “I Love You, Honeybear.”

Note: There’s an official video for this song, that features a nice animation. But I find it a little stilted, and the visuals a bit at odds with how calm and smooth I find the song. Stil looking for a live performance of this song, which I would really love to see.
