Sinead O’Connor: Nothing Compares 2 U
I got into a mode where I was looking up songs from the 90’s, as a kind of nostalgia thing. And decided to look up Sinead O’Connor’s song Nothing Compares 2 U.
This is not a song I really liked to listened to when it first came out. But I found myself listening to it on a loop, and really digging it many years after the fact.
What I hear now, and what catches my ears the most: the key changes. Specifically, the lines “Nothing can take away these blues” and “But he’s a fool.”
I forget when I learned that this song was originally written by Prince. I’m in awe of that fact, and of O’Connor’s version (which is the one I grew up with).
