Julie’s Birthday: Franklin Room

Liz and I were excited to help Julie celebrate her birthday with a trip to the Franklin Room (a spot that is fast becoming a favorite).

The four of us have been sampling whiskies together a bit. We brought them back a bottle from Bunnahabhain, as well as some small taster vials from the Scotch Malt Whisky Society.

As the Franklin Room is, I think, one of the only places in Chicago where you can get Society drams… this was the place to go.

Julie and Bob, at the bar. We arrived pretty early, to give ourselves time to relax before dinner (we were one of the first folks in the door).

A view of the bar.

Julie and Liz, exploring some of the (many) other bottles available.

Liz was delighted to find that they still had a bottle of the Petrified Decadence.

I had a bit of what I also had last time (Pleasant Affair), but also tried out a cask strength Mortlach from 1999.

Group shot!

The dinner was incredibly delicious, and made for a lovely bookend to our drinks.

This is definitely a dangerous place, as we’ve been a few times very recently… and I’m right now thinking about how nice it would be to go back. Glad we got to share the spot and the evening with Julie and Bob.
