Vintage Kitchen Door: Re-installing Trim

Big milestone tonight, with the vintage kitchen door restoration. Liz was ready to re-install some small trim pieces that she removed a while back.

Here she is, applying some glue in preparation for the next step.

One of the daunting tasks for Liz was using the brad nailer to re-install the trim pieces back onto the door. Given their age and how thin they are, she was nervous about a host of things: damaging the trim, accidentally shooting the nails too far, etc.

We got the brad nailer last year, as we needed it to install the moulding on our arbor. But I was the one who did the install and got the experience using the nailer.

Tonight, we walked through the instructions together, and fine-tuned the depth of the nailer. After a few practice nails on some scrap lumber, she was ready to go all-in.

Barely visible – a little putty, a little paint, and no one will be the wiser.

Liz, happy, relieved, and excited to have completed this milestone.

I’ve been a bystander for this whole process, and was really overcome with how proud I felt for Liz… and all the work she’s done. There’s been a lot of learning through this whole process, accentuated by her handling the brad nailer for the first time.
