Building a Box

As part of my Arduino project, I plan on enclosing it within a box. I’m somewhat at a stage now where I actually need the box, so I was working on that a bit tonight. Got a few basic pieces of wood from Home Depot to experiment with.

I don’t have a router, and wasn’t motivated enough to build out a jig for the table saw… so opted to not do anything fancy with box joints. Nothing says MVP like butt joints.

Used the jigsaw to cut the opening for the display. And then used a step bit (pictured at the bottom of the image) to get the size hole I needed for the buttons.
A challenge with the step bit: the opening was the right size, but it left a tapered hole (with the hole getting smaller the further you went away from the top). I tried drilling from underneath, but that didn’t really do it either.
I ended up using a normal drill bit to try to even out the interior. It was… ok, but not overly pretty.

Brothers.
I’ve spent a solid 45 minutes now, trying to track down where and when this smiley guy got etched into our basement cross brace. The closest I’ve come is this photo from 2018, but I know I’ve got some earlier record. I just can’t seem to find it.
:sad face:

Wood glue, some brad nails, and clamps. It’s not overly pretty, but… it’s a box?
