Painting, Installing, Gluing: All the Boards

Today, both Liz and I had our separate projects, with both of us working with long lengths of boards.

I finished up what I needed to – getting the last deck board down. The previous piece I tried to install wasn’t fitting, and I thought it might be warped… so I cut a new piece. Lo and behold, the issue was in the groove of the prior piece, which I cleaned up a bit with a wood chisel. And things fit just fine, after.

Bob wanted to handle the final piece of deck board, and also had some sanding to do on the edge piece. So to help prep for him, I had the task of gluing two deck boards together.

With help from Liz: wrapping a longer board in plastic, as a surface to work on.

Two boards, glued together, and clamped down for an hour.

In the basement, Bob had dropped off several 16′ lengths. These pieces are going to be used along the side of our house, to finish up the repair work outside.

Liz is wanting to use linseed oil paint for these, and it requires a long curing time.

First step: treating the knots, before applying a coat of primer.

Space was really limited in the basement, as we needed to place all of the boards flat on the floor. This resulted in us moving a lot of things around, and tucking things in the back basement area, by the washer/dryer.

The space around the wood is wide open, but everywhere else… we’re packed up like sardines.
