A Familiar Animation
I don’t post much on social media anymore, and mostly just lurk. On Facebook, I happened to see this video that my friend Juliet shared. It’s from The School of Life, a YouTube channel that has some interesting/insightful videos about the human condition.
The videos tend to be somber, yet optimistic in tone. Contemplative. It’s tricky to describe. The videos acknowledge heavy topics like loss and suffering, but always frame them as necessary things, all part of the human experience.
The video my friend Juliet shared was entitled Your Life Will Go Wrong, and You Will be Relieved:
On watching this, I did a double-take. The artwork/animation seemed really familiar to me. I was reminded of Darlingside’s music video, for their song “God of Loss”.
On doing a bit of digging, I confirmed it was the same artist: Andrew Benincasa. Who, apparently, has done a lot of artwork for music videos.
There is a sadness and melancholy that emanates from both of these videos. Both of these videos evoke a sense of hurt and a sense of celebration, in equal measure. As does the act of sharing these videos, I think.
There are these terrible things that happen to us. But look at us.
