Dungeons and Dragons and Easter Eggs

Liz and I were watching the most recent Dungeons and Dragons movie (Honor Among Thieves). It’s a pretty good/fun movie, and better than I expected. I restrained myself from telling Liz all about my prior knowledge of Neverwinter and Baldur’s Gate.

During one of the action scenes in the middle of the film, the main characters are put into an arena, alongside other groups of adventurers. I saw this flash. And I thought to myself “Wait, was that…”

I rewound a bit, and was able to pause things. And yeah, it’s what I thought it was.

A bit later, the main characters in the movie run into the group from earlier.

The camera shows them, but very, very briefly. I had a pretty good laugh when I saw this.

For those that don’t know:

I loved this cartoon, back when I was a kid. And it’s one of the defining cartoons for me, that shaped my Saturday mornings. That is, when I wasn’t stuck in a car, driving 45 minutes to my violin teacher’s house for lessons.

If there’s such a thing as the exact opposite of “violin lessons as a child,” it’s this cartoon. I knew Paramount was aware of the cartoon, but I love that they did this nod in the movie itself.
