Starting to Run

While we were away in Michigan last week, I experienced a few moments where my vision got a little blurry. It was similar to what I experienced back in 2021, but it was short-lived and didn’t last as long.

It’s hard for me to tell if it was a dietary reaction… or if it was just a blip, maybe me switching between looking at my phone and the computer screen.

We’ve been on Keto for a while, and went off a bit while in Michigan. But I didn’t go overly crazy. The day before the incidents, I did indulge a little, but I wouldn’t have expected such a strong reaction.

Suffice it to say – these moments worried me. So I’ve moved quickly back to Keto, after we returned to Chicago. And I’ve dusted off some old shoes and clothes, and started running in the morning before work.

It’s still the first week, but I’m trying another Couch to 5K program. The first week is pretty basic: run for 60 seconds, walk for 90 seconds, and repeat. At the start, I thought it would be too easy, but at the end of the first day… my lungs were burning a bit.

Second day (today) was better, and I felt better towards the end of the session (and was actually debating running another set). Looking back at when we tried this a long while back, I know that the intervals are going to change, and soon I’ll be running at 5, 10, 20 minute intervals.

Not sure how I’ll hold up. But for now, I’m at least moving again. And hopefully this, along with the renewed focus on Keto, will help drop my weight a bit more. It’s very much a sedentary life I’ve had for some while now, so motion is definitely a good thing. And from the sounds of things, a necessary thing.
