Hungry Turtles
Liz and I took a mid-afternoon break from work. I was picking up a late lunch, she was picking up some of her favorite coffee (at a nearby Philz Coffee).
On the way back, we made a slight detour.
A little hard to see, but the sign clearly says “TORTOISES ARE OUT.”
Also, just noticed: there’s a small rock on top of the enclosure, with a little turtle painted on it.
We spotted this little guy, near the sidewalk.
His beefier friend was on the other side of the yard, stomping around.
On seeing the two of us, we must have sent the wrong signal… because the big guy started stomping towards us. I think he thought we had food, and he was really going fast (even for a turtle), straight for us.
Wish we had some food to give, but probably wouldn’t feel comfortable doing that. It’s funny – we’ve seen these turtles here for a few years now, but have yet to run into any of the humans that actually reside here.
As far as I know, this place belongs to the turtles… and they just allow a few random humans to occupy the large box in their backyard.
