Goo Goo Dolls: Name

In another odd moment of nostalgia that I can’t quite explain, I’ve had the song “Name” by the Goo Goo Dolls stuck in my head for several days.

I never really listened to them very much, but several of their songs seem to resonate with a certain era of my life – mostly around the first few years I moved to Chicago. I remember listening to the radio a lot, when I commuted between Chicago and Barrington many, many years ago.

For whatever reason, this song has latched onto my brain. And I’ve not been able to get rid of it.

The video reminds me a lot of the videos I used to see on MTV, back when I was in college. At various moments, I can envision myself in a dorm room watching a small TV late at night; at other times, I can see this video on a TV in the first house I lived in outside of Indianapolis… in Bloomington, IN at the corner of 9th and Lincoln.

I’m not sure where these waves of nostalgia come from. This was never a band I got into, but it hearkens back to an earlier era of my life. If only tangentially.
