Watchhouse: Rounder

I’ve been listening again to the album Such Jubilee, by Watchhouse. I’ve forgotten how much I love this album, and how fond I am of their lyrics.

The video I initially meant to share was a live performance. But I’m going to share the audio version first, which is what you’d hear on the album. Mostly because I want you to hear the lyrics, before the visuals.

They’re gonna hang me boys from a tall, tall tree
Those demons, they’ll be the death of me
Some folks are guided by some light of the Lord
But me I was blinded and I’ll never afford my salvation

For me, it’s the syncopation that I love. And the odd rhymes that seem to extend over a line and spill over into the next (like simmer/trigger).

I would really love to see this group perform in person. Of the videos I’ve found, they sound just as good live as they do on their recordings (which I think is not always a given).
