Office Turret, Structural Support: Preview
It’s been a long time coming, but we finally have some folks helping us add some much needed support/reinforcements to the ceiling in our (future) office space.
After a demo session a long while back – Bob noticed that the ceiling joists were sagging considerably. And so we put up a set of supports to brace the ceiling, temporarily.
Well, that temporary fix went on for a few years… and kept things stable. But for the most part, this part of the house was a glorified storage area, as we needed to really do something significant to support both the ceiling (and the turret that’s part of our roof).
A few supplies.
A few tools.
Several brackets, supporting the existing ceiling joists. And two lengthy LVLs that were joined to an existing beam to help take on the load coming from the roof/turret.
Additional buttresses, added into the attic area.
Existing ceiling joists, bracketed to the newly installed LVLs.
Liz, looking up in awe.
In addition to adding support to the roof/turret, we wanted to open up this space a lot more. We wanted to get rid of the ceiling joists along this part of the room… and also wanted to get rid of an interior wall… effectively turning two rooms into one larger room.
More photos to come, but walking in to see all this open space was mind-boggling. Liz and I both had the same reaction, on walking in – laughing uncontrollably at the stark change in the ceiling.
