Taco Bell Test Meal
Another odd and fun Grubhub-related post, that likely is only funny to me. Yesterday, we were testing a new feature in prod, and several of us were placing live orders to step through the new flows.
Part of the process involved cancelling orders, to verify we saw the expected behavior. One variation of the tests involved a certain type of order, what we refer to internally as “JIT” or “Just in Time” orders – orders placed at merchants who are unusually fast in preparing food. Typically, these are fast food merchants, or places that are set up to have a quick turnaround.
For my test, I placed an order with Taco Bell… but failed to cancel it in time. So the order ended up getting delivered, and I threw my meal into the fridge.
Fast forward to today, and my conundrum: I’ve been trying to eat healthier lately, so part of me wanted to avoid day-old Taco Bell. But there was another part of me that acknowledged the fact that I spent my own money on the test order, and the act of not eating the food would just be a waste of money.
This was a tough one.
Ultimately, I threw the tacos into the microwave and made this my lunch. It’s an odd thing to say that I ate some tacos out of financial pragmatism, under some small degree of protest. But here we are.
