Running Retrospective
It’s been a good clip now, where I’ve been trying to keep pace with Liz on her running regimen. She’s going out several times a week, and it’s inspired me to also try to do the same – to also suit up when she does, and to hit the ground when she does.
Our training and routes and vastly different, and grow more distinct with each week. She’s going for longer distances and time, while I’m still struggling with the introductory phase of things.
While she’s doing interval training, I’m slowly pushing myself to run beyond a basic 2 minute jog, one minute walk routine.
Part of my reasoning for running is health. And while I hope that I lose some weight, I know that jogging isn’t the best path to weight loss. It might help my metabolism, but I’m ultimately just wanting the benefits of more physical activity.
There have been moments during my runs where I felt like I could keep running, keep going on. Those have been few and far between, but I remember the sensation. I think that, were I to continue pushing my timing more… I’ll soon become comfortable with 3 minutes without stopping, then four, then five.
At the end of my runs (which are more run/walk sessions), I’m at about 2 miles. It surprised me when Liz said that I was getting closer to a 5K (which clocks in at 3.1 miles).
I’m not quite committed to the notion of actually doing a 5K, but it’s an interesting thought. To imagine it within something like a reach is… unexpected. I’d like to get a bit more time and distance under my belt, before seriously contemplating it… but the thought is there now. Waiting in the wings.
