Marine Corps Marathon 2024, Day 1: Travel to DC
It may be old news, but for those that don’t know: Liz is running a marathon! We’re headed to Washington DC, where she’ll be joining approximately 30,000 other runners in the Marine Corps Marathon (aka “The People’s Marathon”).
She’s been training for a really, really long time. I think she started late last year, before the cold set in. And got gear enough to keep running through the winter, despite snow/ice and cold Chicago temps. She’s been working hard for over a year.
Liz got inspired last year, when Tricia and Paige ran the Chicago marathon. Actually completing a marathon has been something Liz always wanted to do, and she had this realization the only person telling her “no” was herself.
From then to now, she’s been putting a lot of miles under her feet. And really putting in the work.
In the long-term parking lot by Midway. Waiting for the shuttle bus, I spotted this sign and had a laugh because I’m a five year old. In my head, I was reading off the list of “Services,” but the last one was what made me chuckle.

In our hotel room, with the assortment of powders and food and snacks she brought with, for the race.
