Something is Happening in an Old Blog Post from 2013, About Some Keys I Found in My House

So… this blog has been going on a while, now. And there are a lot of old posts. I think that in an earlier era (if there ever was a “heyday” for this blog), I had a decent number of visitors… and people that would leave comments.

That hasn’t been the case for some time. Which is fine. This blog has become more of a photo album for me, in many ways. A diary of sorts, that is accessible by the rest of the world.

But I wanted to share with you something interesting that’s happening. There’s this page that has gotten a decent amount of activity, and actually seen a decent number of comments. And it has very little to do with me. And it’s a lot of strangers, stumbling across this very old post, and talking amongst themselves.

In 2013, as we were cleaning up the basement, I found this old set of keys. Someone had left them on top of the existing duct work, and it took until then for us to discover it.

I made a post about it, citing the details on the keyring and the reference to the Reynolds Metal Company in McCook, Illinois.

And then I got a comment about it. And then another. And slowly, over time, people began stumbling across this post… and started to talk to one another.

Several folks have left comments. Some are mentioning that their grandfather used to work at this plant, and does anyone remember him? Someone else mentioned their father worked there, and another person commented that they knew the person’s father.

It’s fascinating to me that somehow, this little blog post seems to be the top search result for folks looking up the Reynolds plant in McCook.

It was a lovely find, stumbling across these keys that were lost after all this time. And it continues to be a lovely find, to see all these strangers, showing up and connecting with one another, through some comments. What a small little world, what a small little Internet.
