Grubhub Holiday Party, 2024

Holiday party tonight, for Grubhub. I got in pretty early, and milled about for a bit. There was an open bar, lots of appetizers/stations, and several areas set up for a casino-themed party.

On entering, everyone got two tickets. You could either use these tickets to enter for a chance at one of the prizes… or you could cash them in (1 ticket = 200 chips), to use for some of the games (Blackjack, Craps, Roulette). At the end of the night, you could cash in your chips for tickets, if you did well.

Some fun gifts/prizes. My favorite was the three-parter (Box 5): a carry-on suitcase, an Air BnB gift card, and a Southwest gift card.

I spent my time mostly at the craps table, learning the rules of the game. Had a fun time betting, and feel like I did pretty well. That is, up until I lost all my chips.

Craps seems like a seductive game. There’s a lot of momentum with it, and a more cooperative game that I”m used to (versus something like Blackjack or Poker).

I was able to win a lot of money in the early phases, which seems like a design of the game. I didn’t know what I was doing, and still seemed to win easily. But staying on that train for too long, I eventually lost it all – somewhat gradually.

Fun night, but an early night for me.
