Redesign

Going over old posts, I got the sense that the blog needs a serious redesign and overhaul. At some point, the navigation stopped working – and I just didn’t notice. I’m sure there are other spaces hidden from view, that aren’t behaving as expected.

I started looking over WordPress themes a bit tonight. I can work with Child Themes well enough, but it’s been a minute. And as much time as I’ve spent around incredibly talented graphic designers… I feel like I know what good design looks like. But I’m assuredly unable to produce anything near that assessment with my own two hands.

Browsing around, I’m realizing that I no longer have a sense of what a good (or modern) site looks like. Responsiveness, sure. But just in terms of style or feel, I don’t think I’ve got a clue.

Browsing around, a lot of the themes I’m coming across seem incredibly dated. And for me to think that, that’s saying something.

So I guess this is where I’m at: an ache for something new, and in inability to determine what new looks like.

In the meanwhile, I’ve re-installed MAMP, and have a local dev environment somewhat functional. And I’ll be honest: I haven’t done any honest to goodness tech dev or coding in an eon, so even something like this felt… nice.

I may not be creating anything just yet, but it’s creation adjacent. And I’ll take it.

// Edit: One thing that folks may not have noticed, I’ve increased the default photo size starting with the January 1, 2025 entry… and plan on using larger images from here on out.

Most of the images prior to now have been 600×400. I’m upping it to 1200×800, and we’ll see how that works.
