Deck Board Install

With the hinged cellar door installed, it’s time to put decking down. This was my first attempt, and I was trying to ensure that I didn’t end a board right where the seam would be for the hinged door.

After our trip to Scotland, and our discovery of the Scotch Malt Whisky Society in Edinburgh, Liz and I have become enamored with the Society’s cask strength bottles.
Ready for the install. The two supports from yesterday are near the front, where the hinged door/floor will rest. We also put two small plywood spacers along the side, to ensure there’s a small gap between the door and the existing deck.
Continuing work on making the hinged cellar door. I made a small jig, based on the shape of the hinges… and Bob cut the profiles into the deck itself.
We didn’t realize that this was a paired tasting. With us on Keto, Liz and I mostly picked at the cheese and meats and nuts. It was hard to turn away the chocolate.

“No, this year I want to call
myself to task for what
I have done and not done
for peace. How much have
I dared in opposition?”
This is going to actually be a fairly busy week for us (socially, as well as whisky-wise). Think of this as a little bit of a pre-game night, before some big events.
“Well, if heaven is a hotel with no checkout time
And hell is just a motel with smoking rooms
Can I get an estimation when to book my destination?”
Bob has a neat idea for us to add space to the deck, while also providing us access to the basement. Instead of cellar doors, we’re going to have a moveable part of the deck that we can lift/lower as needed.
Liz was on the lookout for an older window. But we mostly just browsed around. While the windows were fewer than we had hoped, there wer definitely a lot of doors.
Hazard Fraught is a phenomenal website by Randy Forte that tracks Harbor Freight tool prices over time. Not only can you see the current price of a given tool, you can see how much (percentage-wise) it’s currently up or down. You can also dig into each item, and see a history of every time the item price changed, over the last year or two.
After work today, I was running a bunch of errands. And on the list: stop in at a Northwestern Immediate Care, to get the Bivalent Booster shot.
I was sitting with Daisy one evening, and she decided to just hang out in her hop-n-flop… and promptly fell asleep. But not only was she sleeping, she started snoring.
I was able to get my camera out, and quietly filmed her up close for a little while.

“And I walked off you
And I walked off an old me
Oh me, oh my, I thought it was a dream
So it seemed”
