Dining Room Demo
This is not exactly what you’d call a relaxing weekend. But we did get a great deal of work done. The days and weeks are going to be busy like this for a little while, as we race the oncoming cold.

Demo Prep in the Dining Room
One part of the ceiling was exposed, so I was able to see the joist directly. After putting in that first washer, I went to the other side of the room and picked up the joist down there, putting in another washer. Then I used the laser level to connect the dots, and put in more washers down the line.
Saturday Cleaning Day, Part 2
Saturday was another big cleaning day for us. Originally, the plan was to tackle the whole first floor last weekend, but we ended up only getting though the kitchen. Today: the remainder of the first floor. Mostly.
All Day Cleaning Extravaganza
We’ve had this day on the books for a while: on Saturday, Liz and I spent all day working on cleaning the first floor. More specifically: we meant to clean the entire first floor, but ended up spending all our time in our kitchen.
New Temporary Kitchen Sink
The sink, as it stands now, was moved to the dining room where it is currently fed via two garden hoses, coming up from the basement through the fireplace.

While I was standing there, I remembered one of my very, very early blog posts – a Chinese Dumpling Recipe I posted way back in 2002. I remembered listening to this same album while I was cooking then, and it struck me how much things had changed over the last 13 years.
Waking Up to the Sound of Running Water
This morning, around 4:45 AM, I woke up to the sound of water running. Which was weird, because we didn’t leave anything running when we went to sleep. As I started to wake up, it struck me that the sound was not just of water running, but of significant water running.
Moving the Kitchen Sink into the Dining Room
On Saturday, Bob came over to help us move out the very last, remaining item out of the kitchen: the sink. Right now, about 40% of the floor is torn up, with a bit of plywood down. And we needed to get this sink moved, before we continued with any more work.
