Julie ended up taking the wheel while Dan was pushing and I was at the back of the truck. For a little while, I was trying to jump up/down on the truck, to see if that would help get it to catch the plywood. But we ended up rocking it enough to where Julie was able to get the truck up a small hill and back on solid ground again.
I later realized that everyone else had gone inside Holy Grail Winery (where they had some of the most amazing wine decanters I had ever seen).
We stayed out by the fire for a long while, and didn’t end up going in until right around midnight. Our nap had given us a little more energy, so Liz and I stayed up until around 1AM, eating potato chips and watching cable TV in our little nook. A very lovely end to a very full day.
In all honesty, the H.S. Clay House was just a phenomenal place to stay. Had we done nothing else at all over the course of the weekend, had we not gone to any wineries at all and just stayed at the house? I would have been perfectly content.
On Sunday, Liz and I drove over to visit Julie and Bob for Father’s Day. We started off with a late lunch (or early diner) at Industrial Revolution.
Similar to what they did for our front yard, Liz came home with an assortment of things for us to plant along our new fence.
I was back in Frankfort briefly today. Bob found this old photo (dated 1954) that features Kathy, Julie, and Stephen.
A big moving day, but Bob and Julie are officially in their new place. Lots of boxes, lots of things to arrange… but this is an exciting next chapter for them. Looking forward to visiting, and seeing the new place when everyone is all settled.
For me, I have very fond memories of the house – despite being a late arrival. Even now, looking at these columns and into the living room… it’s hard not to imagine a christmas tree.
On Sunday, Liz and I went out with Julie and Bob to celebrate Liz’s birthday. Though her actual birthday is the 27th, last Sunday ended up working out best for our schedules – and for us to be able to get in to Three Dots and a Dash.
Today, I took the day off to go down to Frankfort. Bob and Julie got a dumpster, and I was going to help them clear out some items from the garage (and attic).
There was a good amount of “stuff” in the attic, but all in all it wasn’t that bad. They had experienced some squirrel damage to some items, and a lot of the work involved sifting through what remained undamaged… and what was worth keeping.
On our last day in Frankfort, we had a very slow and relaxing day. Slept in, and spent most of the day watching movies in the living room.
The day after Christmas, Katie and Dan’s family headed over to Frankfort to hang out (and to have a post-Christmas dinner). On arriving, we all ended up congregating and hanging out in the kitchen for a long while.
In back, that would be Sebastian putting on his Darth Vader helmet. I wish I had some video/audio to share, because in addition to changing his voice… it also spits out Vader quotes. Which, coming from his short frame, was actually just hilarious.
