Cutting out space for an outlet, for a larger piece on the North wall. The area this was getting added to was pretty tricky, in that we had an area in the original drywall that had bowed a lot. I think we accidentally missed a nail, which resulted in a slight protrusion.

For each sheet, we’re doing a bit of dry fitting first. But after that, we’re throwing up some Liquid Nails on the wall and affixing the final sheet on together. The process has been a little tricky, as we’re also using a set of mini/foot lifters, to get the sheet up against the ceiling.

More drywall work tonight. Some interesting discoveries and approaches, in that we’ve got some walls that aren’t quite lining up… and required some shimming. As we’re adding drywall to one section, we’re having to forecast how it will line up with a future piece – and the area leading to our windows has proven particularly challenging.

Now that we’re back home and rested (and recuperated) from our trip to Costa Rica, Liz and I are trying to dig in deep and put in time towards house work.

Liz had the day off today. And instead of taking a much-needed break, she suited up and spent the day working on the living room. We had some backer board left to rip and put up, along with a lot of drywall pieces arond the window frames.
And she did it all. Table saw, circular saw, multitool, staple gun, the works.

We suited up after work tonight, and put more time in getting the living room prepped for drywall. Got some of the 3/8″ backerboards set up.

First bit of backerboard installed. Eventually, a sheet of 3/8″ drywall will sit on top of this thing. And a second sheet of 1/2″ drywall will cover both the 3/8″ and the backerboard. The idea behind the backerboard is to ensure there’s always material to bite into, when installing the baseboard/trim. No need to hunt for studs, since there should always be something to dig into.

I ended up working from home today, as I was feeling pretty under the weather. I had a runny nose the day before, and today I just felt off. Not sick to the point where I’m delirious with fever, but off enough to know that I shouldn’t be around other people.

I hate to say it, but we argued a great deal while working today. It wasn’t a very pleasant or stress-free experience. I got frustrated often, and Liz and I went back and forth a lot.

With much, if not all, of the living room demo completed, we’re closing in on being able to put drywall up on the walls. Before all that though: we’re putting a layer of drywall on the ceiling (ceiling first, then the walls).

After work, Liz and I suited up to finish off the last remaining bits of work we needed to attend to. We’ve got some boarders coming to our house tomorrow night, and still had some things that needed to get done.

Here’s me talking about a particular moment from back in 2005. I’ll keep this a secret until the video’s available, but maybe some of you might know what this is about.

We’ve been focusing on the living room lately, trying to now get that room in order (now that the bunnies are back).

This is about as far as I got with mine. My joke was that Sajit’s last gesture before he left was to leave all of us with a small bit of work that was impossible to finish.

Sunday morning, Liz and I debated how to spend the day. We talked about possibly heading in to St. Louis to visit a few places, but they all didn’t open until noon.
Ultimately, we decided to head back to Chicago so we could… do more house work, and do more demo. We figured that we’d get home mid-afternoon, leaving us a few hours to get some more work in.
