Late in the day yesterday, I stopped in to check on Liz in her sewing room. She had stopped sewing, and was working on affixing similar buttons together in a set. She looked up and said “I needed some buttons. And then… something happened.” I had a good laugh, and thought the moment worthy of remembering.
Although there was a lot of cleaning up when we did our demo in this room, apparently there was a little more cleanup left. Here, Liz has opened up her serger to give it a much-needed cleaning.
A few random photographs, taken on a Sunday. Does what it says on the tin.
Liz has been super hard at work on a Macaron dress for a long while now. She started it in July of 2011, but has recently spent a lot of time working on and finally finishing the dress. Though I’ve ceased to keep track of all her projects on here (ever since she got her own blog), this one warrants a special look. There’s a ton of intricate work involved – lots of lace, a lot of hand sewing, a lot of complicated things I don’t quite understand. The end result is pretty spectacular.
I walked in to the dining sewing room a few days ago and found Liz working on a new project. I was surprised to see fabric strewn across the table, and looping on the floor behind her.
Liz and I headed over to the Lincoln Park Zoo early this morning, to go take some photos at the Lincoln Park Conservatory. Liz has been participating in weekly projects via Sew Weekly – and so we have a standing appointment to do photoshoots on Sunday mornings. With all the snow out, we decided going someplace warm (and indoors) would be best.
Late last week, Liz and I headed out on our lunch breaks to do a photoshoot for her latest project. Over the holidays (in addition to painting the living room and other miscellaneous projects) she was finishing up several almost-done sewing items. She recently completed a navy pleated skirt and since the weather was fairly warm on Friday… we headed towards Millenium Park.
Late in the day today, I got an excited email from Liz with a link to a site called Sew Weekly. When I loaded up the site, guess who I saw – front and center, right there on the home page!
I came home today to discover our front entryway was covered in several sheets of paper, all taped together. On closer inspection, I saw that it was a pattern that Liz had printed out. On seeing this, my first thought was a favorite quotation of mine. It’s by John Fante, and it’s the opening to his book Full of Life:…
My wife Liz recently started up her own blog, focusing on sewing, knitting, baking, and all the projects she has going on in her spare time. She recently hit 10 followers, and to celebrate she’s running a giveaway. As a prize, she’s offering up about 3+ yards of a nice quality fabric, along with your choice of one of four…
In a recent segment on the Sew, Mama, Sew! website… they asked several people in the sewing industry to look back on 2010, and for their thoughts on what’s in store for 2011. Today’s post, by Sarai Mitnick of Colette Sewing Patterns, features Liz and her Lady Grey coat!. Each person interviewed is asked a series of questions (what were…
Liz got a package from Amazon yesterday, and it contained an assortment of sewing-related things. In addition to a few books so purchased, she also picked up some rather strange items: a large stack of comic book boards, as well as a 100 plastic comic book bags. Apparently, this is a storage technique that a lot of folks use for…
Liz has been working on a sew-along project, where participants from all over agree to undertake a specific sewing project at the same time. This latest one was a larger undertaking, spanning about a month’s worth of work to create a coat off of the Lady Grey pattern. If you want to see the early stages of the coat, and…
For the past few days, Liz has been hard at work on a new winter coat. She’s participating in a sew-along, joining nearly 200 other readers of a blog entitled blogforbettersewing.com. Basically, everyone works on the same piece at the same time, with each person documenting their process and sharing tips, photos and suggestions with one another. Pretty neat concept….
