Daisy and Carmelita, Second Bonding Session
Things were a little rough downstairs for the last session, so we decided to relocate upstairs to the bedroom. Even more neutral ground. Liz had a lot more guarding to do.

Carmelita and Daisy, sharing a pen for the first time. This was our first (brief) intro for them together, and Liz sat inside to moderate.
Got a call from my cousin Diane that she was in town with her boyfriend, Ryan. We chatted during the week, and coordinated with them to meet up Saturday night. They’ve had quite the whirlwind Chicago vacation, and today was no exception.
Two females bonding is not unheard of, but is typically a tougher match. So there was some hesitation here, bringing Daisy and Carmelita together. But they got along pretty well on their first date, and Carmelita was a strong candidate.
This is, I believe, primer. Fun fact: she’s using spray paint, but had to trek out to the suburbs to get it (spray paint isn’t sold within Chicago proper). Go figure.
Over the weekend, Liz and I had an appointment scheduled at Red Door to visit with their bunnies. It’s a shelter we’ve been to oftentimes in the past (where we found both Quincy [originally Marciano] and Phineas [originally Cowboy]).
With the apple trees growing a bit more, Liz decided she wanted to add more wires to the espalier posts.
For reference, we put these posts in last year, but only just got around to planting apple trees in April of this year.
Liz and I had a very quiet and sedentary morning today. But decided to get out of the house in the late afternoon, for a picnic over at Promnotory Point.
One of the things Liz and I were wanting to do this week was to visit a museum. We’d talked a bit about the Field Museum (I learned that Liz once worked there while in college). We also considered revisiting Shedd Aquarium.
I’ve lived in Chicago for a good long while now, ever since 2000. And in all this time, I’ve yet to make it over to Starved Rock. Until today.
With us working a lot the last few days, today ended up being a pretty slow and laid back kind of day. The sky was cloudy, the forecast called for rain… so we spent a lot of the day just hanging out inside. Chatting a little, reading a little. And more than one nap took place.
Anne flew in last night, and we had the chance to catch up a bit over dinner. This morning, we all suited up and headed back to the marina to put a few more hours in working on the boat.
One of the Christmas gifts we gave to Liz’s dad last year: a coupon for two “working days” on the boat. We drove up to Michigan this weekend, with the aim to spend some time hanging out… and also making good on our promise.
Today Liz and I decided to have another slow day, where we ambled around our neighborhood a bit more. Despite our working from home since the Pandemic started, we’ve really not been “out and about” in our neighborhood very much. Lately, we’ve wanted to change that.
The AC unit, in place! It was a little tricky getting this thing up high enough… but we eventually got there. Bob and I had to put it in place, make some marks, and then take it back down. After he drilled in holes for the base/feet… we had to put this thing back up again.
We’ve got another unit going in, but it won’t be quite as tight a fit as this was.
