Today, Liz and I joined Julie, Bob, Katie, and Tim in Merrillville to celebrate thanksgiving. We got there around 1:30PM, and had a pretty lazy afternoon just hanging out in the kitchen, drinking wine, and snacking prior to the big meal.
The fireplace in the office had a really loose mantel. After moving it to one side, we discovered a treasure trove of lost/forgotten things that had slipped away from view. Some items were from 20 years ago, some were more than 50 years old.
It’s hard now to say that, given how tired I feel as I write this. But Liz always reminds me that we feel much more invigorated after a full, productive day of house work. As tiring as it is, the work does instill a great sense of accomplishment, after a good work day.
This event has happened a few times in the past (see the links below), but this would be the first time the pie making has happened in Julie and Bob’s new house (and on their new countertop to boot).
Liz made a reservation for us to have a date night tonight at Monteverde. These last few months, all we’ve really focused on has been our house and our work.
With a lot of demo work done over the last few weeks, today Liz and I worked on adding insulation to the guest room wall. Though it’s a little counter-intuitive to open up the walls with the cold outside, we’re sealing up cracks with Great Stuff and adding a layer of much-needed insulation.
Well, it’s not an official extreme ironing photo, but it’s as close as we’ll get.
After a big house day yesterday, Liz and I were still planning to do some work today… but to end early, so that we could enjoy a bit of our Sunday, relaxing. Which… sorta happened.
Today, Liz and I spent most of the day working on the house. We did a lot of prep work, winterizing some problematic windows… and did a good bit of demo to boot.
As part of our yardwork, we removed some broccoli that Liz had planted. It didn’t end up yielding anything, but boy did it get large.
I don’t build forts anymore. At least, not for myself.
On Saturday, Liz and I went out to Valparaiso to celebrate Julie’s birthday (it really was a weekend of birthday parties). We had dinner plans at a downtown restaurant, but arrived a little early to just visit briefly.
Found this while scanning through old photos on my phone. My wife is a troublemaker.
Bob was over tonight, talking with us about plans for the upstairs bedrooms. He went up into the attic to investigate the roofline. It’s been a long while since anyone’s been up there.
As a frame of reference, we did a lot of demo over the weekend – getting most of the plaster and debris out. But we had a lot of lathe still to clear.
