Last night, Liz and I came home from work and went right into the basement to work. We’ve had several days off in a row, and it’s always hard to get back into the swing of things (particularly when coming home after a day of work).

I had accidentally mixed up regular cement… and this set off a scramble for us to prep a metal pipe we’re intending to use as a support column. The goal was to pack it with cement, and Bob helped quickly set things up so that we could tackle this task instead.

Our process in the past has always been two-fold: we would go first, and scout out potential candidates. We wanted to make a list of rabbits that we liked ourselves, and seemed to get along with. After that, we’d bring our rabbit for an initial meeting, and see how the two got along.

Our goal was to prep some of the plywood we have downstairs, before cutting it up and placing it over the ” target=”_blank”>the basement insulation. One side (the side facing outward, towards the insulation) needed to get covered in paint.

Bob warned us that one of the biggest challenges in living in a house while you work on it is navigating all the stuff. You’re working where you live, and you need to move things out of the way, then back, and then out of the way again.

On our last day in Frankfort, we had a very slow and relaxing day. Slept in, and spent most of the day watching movies in the living room.

The day after Christmas, Katie and Dan’s family headed over to Frankfort to hang out (and to have a post-Christmas dinner). On arriving, we all ended up congregating and hanging out in the kitchen for a long while.

In back, that would be Sebastian putting on his Darth Vader helmet. I wish I had some video/audio to share, because in addition to changing his voice… it also spits out Vader quotes. Which, coming from his short frame, was actually just hilarious.

There is something quintessentially American about being Chinese-American, and ordering out for Chinese food on Christmas eve. Back when my parents used to have a restaurant, this happened all the time. But it still feels like the thing to do, especially around the holidays.

On arriving, we met the newest addition to my sister’s family: Layla. She tended to bark a lot when first meeting us, but warmed up soon after. She was super sweet and got a lot of attention from me and Liz during our stay.

I have to confess: I had a hard time with the jointer. I could run my pieces through ok, but it was tough (seemed to be some sap) and I kept getting stuck. Additionally, I had a hard time knowing when I was “done.” Things seemed flat, but some of the pieces were warped/curved… and that added an extra layer of challenge.

Some weeks ago, Liz and I were talking about trying to return to our regular “date nights.” In the course of this discussion, we ended up finding a basic “Woodworking 101” class at Rebuilding Exchange – and ended up deciding to convert our plans to “practical date nights.”
