Liz’s DIY Lightbox

Sharing this for the impressive/cool factor: inspired by a few examples she saw online, Liz spent part of her Saturday afternoon going to Home Depot, gathering a few items… and piecing together her very own DYI lightbox.

I walked up near the starting area to snap a few pics. This is the registration area, where you sign your name, get your map, and get your red and blue ribbons. The blue ribbon goes immediately around your arm, to signal that you’re a runner. Throughout the game, as you’re trying to get to each checkpoint on your map, you’ll be trying to avoid people with red armbands (chasers). If you’re caught, you give your blue arm band to the person who caught you, put on your red arm band… and become a chaser yourself.
For Mother’s Day, Liz and I woke up early and made our way to the I-80 Flea Market in Tinley Park. This is the flea that Liz’s mom goes to, but it’s a bit of a hike for us (as we typically go to Wolff’s Flea Market, up in Rosemont).
Last week, Leslie and Chris swung by to hang out a bit after work. Leslie was working on some sewing projects, and Chris was going to swing by as well (to play videogames with me).
I’ve got a Netflix account in my name, but Liz and I share it. Though we do the bulk of our viewing now using Netflix Streaming, we still have a 2-disc subscription.
Liz and I each have our own queue, where we list up the movies we want to see. It’s divided evenly – she gets one DVD, I get the other.
Saturday evening, Liz and I headed over to Rob and Gretchen’s place to celebrate Rob’s birthday. On arriving, we found the place completely decked out – Valentine’s day decorations aplenty, with a lot of red lighting.
I walked in to the dining sewing room a few days ago and found Liz working on a new project. I was surprised to see fabric strewn across the table, and looping on the floor behind her.
Liz and I headed over to the Lincoln Park Zoo early this morning, to go take some photos at the Lincoln Park Conservatory. Liz has been participating in weekly projects via Sew Weekly – and so we have a standing appointment to do photoshoots on Sunday mornings. With all the snow out, we decided going someplace warm (and indoors) would be best.
Late last week, Liz and I headed out on our lunch breaks to do a photoshoot for her latest project. Over the holidays (in addition to painting the living room and other miscellaneous projects) she was finishing up several almost-done sewing items. She recently completed a navy pleated skirt and since the weather was fairly warm on Friday… we headed towards Millenium Park.
Late in the day today, I got an excited email from Liz with a link to a site called Sew Weekly. When I loaded up the site, guess who I saw – front and center, right there on the home page!
On Sunday, Liz and I headed out to Niles to attend a baby shower for Bryan and Jamie. We got to see Jamie and Bryan shortly after walking in the doors (and we were followed closely by Justin and Alexis). Note: check out Bryan’s ponytail!
With our vacation in full swing, Liz and I have been pretty busy with our own projects. Most mornings this week, I’ve gone to New Wave Coffee and set up shop with a bottomless mug. After that, I head home and alternate between being on my computer and playing video games.
Over the past two weeks, Liz has been itching to re-do the dining room. It’s the place where she spends the bulk of her time (at the dining room table), with her sewing projects.
A little later in the evening, Katie got on Skype with Tricia and her family. It was a lot of fun to watch everyone on the laptop, talking with everyone down in Atlanta.
To celebrate Christmas, Liz and I headed down to Frankfort to visit her folks. We went a day early, and ended up spending the night there – spending both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day with them.
