It’s been nearly two months since we were last at Bang Bang Pie and Biscuits, and I’ve been thinking about this place ever since. Maybe not every single day, but… I would say at least once every two or three days. Easily.

Today is Liz’s birthday, and I had a full day of excursions scheduled. First off, we hit up The Bongo Room for breakfast. Since we’re now in Hyde Park, we opted for the Roosevelt location instead of Wicker Park (general note: it still fills up super fast). After eating a delicious breakfast and going over some options on where to visit for the day… we headed out to our first stop: Architectural Artifacts.

Had to be back in Logan Square super early this morning, and decided to spend a bit of time relaxing over at New Wave Coffee. It’s been a few weeks since we officially left Logan Square, but it does feel nice to be in here once more – if only for a little part of a morning.

It’s strange to think that we first moved to Logan Square some eight years ago, and found this apartment nearly nearly four years ago – with its famous tree and all.

Walking to work today, I noticed that the large billboards near the Logan Blue Line stop were, once again, totally empty. Not two weeks ago, there was actually an ad populating one of the spaces, after almost two years of just being blank.

For those not familiar with Everyblock, the site lets you follow a certain block, neighborhood, or ward. By customizing the different areas you want to focus on and watch, the site then fills your timeline with all sorts of information: crime reports, local events, business reviews.

This morning, on our way to work, Liz and I ran into a delay on the Blue Line. Normally, these aren’t any big deal (delays happen all the time, and the lines usually pick up fairly quickly). But today was different. In addition to the platform being packed, both the North and South-bound trains were sitting at the Logan Square stop… and both trains looked to be completely devoid of power.

On the way to work a few days ago, I noticed that the heretofore giant, empty billboards suddenly had an advertisement! Well, one of them at least.

Sadly, this morning, I found a “For Lease” sign… which means that our local French bakery is no more. Looking on their website, it seems that they were doing well enough (and opened up a second location in Lakeview). For now though, they appear to be going the food truck route.

Potstickers and an order of bao. The potstickers came upside down, and essentially fused together at the base. Though they were a little greasy, they were the good kind of greasy – and the soy sauce was deliciously perfect. The bao we had was a mixture of foie gras and sage, and I have to say… it was the most delicious thing. The flavor seemed to curve upwards towards tasting sweet, but turned back at the last minute. The bao was probably my favorite item from the whole evening.

Hello blog readers! As some of you may know by now, Liz and I are officially homeowners and will be moving to Hyde Park. Though we have many tasks ahead of us, one of our top to-do items is to find someone to take over our current apartment.

A few weeks ago, a very large sculpture in the shape of a light bulb appeared along Logan Boulevard, Ever since then, additional sculptures have begun to appear, seemingly overnight. There’s now a sculpture on almost every other block along the boulevard, spanning from Western to Milwaukee. And no one seems to know where they came from.

Located near Logan Boulevard and Sacrmento, the apartment is 1400+ square feet, has two bedrooms, a sun room, and tons of windows that overlook the building’s (kinda famous) courtyard as well as Logan Boulevard proper. Prior to us moving in in 2010, the entire apartment had been completely renovated, so everything inside is new. There are tons of closest, and each one has tons of shelving pre-installed. Heat is free, and in the summertime the landlord provides (and installs) AC units for free.

Guys. These things are delicious. I got into a good groove editing photos and listening to this song on repeat for a good while. The only drawback I see to cortados is that I now want to drink like 10 of them in a row.

The goal was to have an informal get-together, where folks could take advantage of the nearby Logan Square Famer’s Market. We’d provide some drinks and light snacks, and the market would provide the rest (tons of great food nearby).
