A.A. Bondy: World Without End

“If you return to love
The sky thick with sleepin’ doves
And the spider’s dirty web
Catch a ghost”
“If you return to love
The sky thick with sleepin’ doves
And the spider’s dirty web
Catch a ghost”
This seems appropriate.
“So it goes, though no one knows you
like they used to do
Have a drink the sky is sinking
toward a deeper blue”
“Anyone that I might want in this world
They’re asleep in the arms of another girl
Who will they be when the lights come up?
Everyone that I ever loved in my life
Now calls somebody else their wife
Who am I to you?”
“Counting up the lines on the highway
Like I’m counting my regrets
I’m wrestling the angels
And the devils in my head
I left you without warning, no note beside the bed
I pray you can forgive me, I hope you can forget”
“They’re gonna hang me boys from a tall, tall tree
Those demons, they’ll be the death of me
Some folks are guided by some light of the Lord
But me I was blinded and I’ll never afford my salvation”
I long for the Internet I knew back in the early 2000’s, and this video absolutely reminds me of that era. Talent, sincerity, and whismy, all combined into a shared slice of media that makes the world feel a little less distant.
In another odd moment of nostalgia that I can’t quite explain, I’ve had the song “Name” by the Goo Goo Dolls stuck in my head for several days.
“I left my dear trying to find adventure
She spent years trading my whiskey out for seltzer
Still I hear her voice in the pit of my failure
I ride alone down Goodbye Road”
“Stop taking polaroid pictures
Said the memories
Are good enough
You always knew the right words to say
When the hard times caught up”
“I’m sky scraping
They stay chasing
I’m like a raisin in the sun
I’m running from death’s invasion
They’re done, I’m going gray
I’m still young having mystic visions
Of the one, I hear the hum, the melody comes”
The part that I really wait for, the part that I keep coming back for… kicks in at around 9:00. A big part of it I think is the dissonance and slight chaos that happens, before everyone comes back together. I’m reminded a lot of Shudder to Think in this respect.
“You don’t get to phone me
To tell me that you’re lonely
‘Cus You don’t get to choose the part you lose
And the piece you keep of me”
“I’ve been in love, honey, you know it’s true
Well, since that day I first laid my eyes on you
Love is a crazy game, baby, it’s how I feel
It can make you, oh, so high, but it takes so long to heal”
“You and me at the edge of the world
With a pretty little smile for me to see
New bright whites and a cage full of ice
And a naked little canopy to feed my disease”
