When I was listening purely to the song, I wasn’t paying much attention to the lyrics. I focused mostly on the voice and the music, just not the words. After looking around and finding the official video to this song… I didn’t really pick up on the turn in the song. Watching the video, I was surprised how quickly things transitioned into its much darker, creepier ending.

While driving in my car a week or so ago, I happened to hear a snippet of Michael Kiwanuka’s song Home Again. It was a very brief clip, and when I heard the guy’s name I thought Man, I’m never going to remember that.

Today was mostly a travel day. We boarded a plane from Atlanta to Chicago, then rested up at the apartment for a few hours. Later on, when traffic had died down, we made the trek from Chicago to Indianapolis.

I’ve been listening a lot to an album called “Catching a Tiger,” by Lissie. You wouldn’t think it just by looking at her, but she’s got an incredible (and powerful) voice. I’ve been looping this song, Oh Mississippi an awful lot this weekend.

Perhaps it’s the wine I’ve been drinking, but in thinking of Ohio I’m thinking of my time in graduate school, my writer friends. I’m fondly remembering fun parties and fun celebrations. Given the tone of the song, I’m also thinking a lot about two people I wish were still around – David Citino and Ann Paeth.

I fell in love with one the first tracks from Boswell – We Are All Connected. If you haven’t heard this, I strongly urge you to click the link and check it out – it’s a fantastic example of a autotune and mashup combining and becoming something great.

I just saw their album show up on Rdio a few days ago, and have been playing it a lot since. Don’t know much about them, but this first track is what pulled me in to the album. Reminds me a little of The Black Keys (though it’s just this one song – the other tracks on the album vary a lot).

This music video for Maxmaber Orkestar is a pretty fun concept – 500 people, 1,500 still photographs… and the entire thing animated, one shot at a time. I’m not sure on how they exactly pulled this off. Each person held three different photos? And maybe they didn’t shoot the held photographs in sequence, but mixed…

I’ve been revisiting The Magnetic Fields recently – and specifically their album 69 Love Songs. While I’m not crazy about every single one of these tracks, the ones I do like, I love. They’re the kinds of songs that I can listen to, over and over and over again. I first heard about the band…

Gaka, a 16-piece band from Japan recently shot a music video for their song Tsuchinoko. Created by rakudasan, all the special effects are achieved through the actors, themselves. I’m not so crazy about the music, but the energy and silliness are pretty awesome. I definitely had a few genuine LOLs while watching this. [via BoingBoing]…

Happy Pi Day everybody! March 14th (or 3/14) is officially here, and I’m always amazed to see a large influx of new visitors whenever the day rolls around. I suspect a lot of folks are here to view my pi10k flash experiment, where you can convert the first 10,000 digits of pi into a musical…
