It may be the shorter walk to the El, or it may just be Logan Square as a whole – but I tend to see a lot less street art and graffiti on my walks to work anymore. When I lived in Bucktown, I walked a stretch of North Avenue down to the Milwaukee/Damen/North trisection, and always seemed to spot…

Since we moved in to our apartment, there’s been this incredibly large hole in the street, about a half a block away from us. Oftentimes, when we’re driving and looking for a parking spot… we’ll end up having to slowly drive past this thing, and it’s daunting. Cars are parked on the street, and there’s not a lot of room…

On arriving downtown for work yesterday, Liz and I spotted two girls who were walking in front of us. One girl started to open an umbrella (even though the day was pretty clear). Soon after, the other girl also opened her umbrella – same large size, and also designed to look like an egg. We were walking behind them for…

On the way to work yesterday morning, I spotted two odd signs posted at the Logan Square Blue Line stop. At first, they looked like ordinary signs… but something about the dotted line caught my eye, and I paused for a closer look. This first sign was a puzzler. Still not sure what it’s asking, but it was definitely interesting….

On the way to work Friday morning, I happend by a sign in the door of a building. This was one of those full-glass doors, with a solid black bar across the middle. It was the entryway to a residential set of apartments, and opened to a narrow corridory, with some stairs up. Usually, signs are posted in doors or…

Spotted this on the walk to the El yestrday, near California and Fullerton. It’s the same building that used to have a lucky seven on the side. Looking at this photo again today, I’m reminded of another guy with two ladders, slightly more lost in his work.

Spotted this on the way to work on Friday. Somehow the star just nestled into a small indentation in the street, and looked as though it belonged there. The thought I had when I saw this: “Whether by luck or by design, we find our homes.”

On the way in to work last week, I spotted this guy on a lamppost near the California Blue Line stop. The thing that caught my eye was that it was done on a Priority Mail sticker from the US Post Office. I’d seen a lot more of these, back when I used to live in Wicker Park. Digging around…

Several times a week, at the Jackson Blue Line stop downtown, there are performers singing or playing instruments, entertaining the crowds to and from their way to work. I’ve seen Morris (found out his name today) many times, and even mentioned him here once before. While I have heard him sing before, I’ve also heard him do many songs in…

Thought about titling this post “Maximum Ogre-Drive,” but then thought better of it. Spotted this guy on the way to work, near the California Blue Line stop.

On the way to work, I stopped to check out a little bit of the damage from last night’s storm. There wasn’t a ton of stuff near us (I heard Wicker Park and North Ave got it bad). In talking with Liz, she recalled that huge storm from last year. Comparing the two, she said that this one “didn’t even…

On the way to work this morning, I saw the blue balloon again. Today, it looks a bit worse for wear, after having survived a pretty heavy downfall of snow the past day or two. On seeing it this morning, I was reminded of a black balloon I saw back in Wicker Park (and a photograph I intended to take)…

We got hit with a ton of snow yesterday, which lasted through the entire night. This morning, on the way to work… I stopped to take a few photos en route. I don’t think the snowfall amount was a record breaker, but it was definitely the most we’ve had so far this year. Outside my front door, the bushes were…

This morning, while walking to work, I stumbled across three asian tourists (the two women and the man on the right), standing at the corner of Jackson and Wabash. As I passed by, I noticed they were ARMED TO THE GILLS with cameras. And not just regular ‘ol cameras. Fancy ones. The ones with humongo lenses that I only tend…

At first, the thing that caught my eye was that this kid’s bike had is own U-lock. Shortly after that, I started wondering a bit more about the gigantic antlers on the front. I was running late for work, and had to fight the urge to look around for the owner (or parent), and ask a lot of questions. Sadly,…
