First Family Dinner

Julie was kind enough to bring over some home made food for us, which we re-heated in our microwave for dinner. She’d been working on prepping food for us the past day or so, and it was absolutely delicious.

After our first night at the house (it took us forever to set up our bed)… Liz and I went out to run a few errands. After a stop at Target for some basics, we also got ourselves a brand new “Welcome” mat.
I have to say – trying to stuff enough debris and trash in this guy was like a horrible, horrible game of Tetris. I kept trying to minimize gaps wherever I could, since any free space was just emptiness I was paying for. I got a pretty good amount this time around (though it did take me until around 8PM to fully finish loading it up).
On Saturday, Justin was kind enough to wake up early and accompany me to the house for a bit of work in the kitchen. We got to the house around 11AM (Bob had already been here since 7AM), and after a brief tour… settled in to some dusty work. While demo-ing the walls was pretty fast, moving to the ceiling…
Liz, painting some of the basement joists. We got a coat of paint on here a while ago, but much of it soaked into the wood. This time around, we’re getting better coverage.
This photo is a small note for myself. I used the hand saw today on my own, and cut down some larger wood pieces to make them a little easier to handle. Nothing tricky or crazy, but since I still have all my fingers… let’s put this one in the ‘win’ column.

I spent most of the day at the house moving a lot of our trash from the porch to the Bagster bag on the driveway. I’m slightly nervous about the needed clearance, as the website says that there needs to be 5′ on either side of the bag – which as of today, there is. But cars park close to our driveway on the street, and there’s no easy way for me to control how other people park.
Liz, finishing up the final round of varnish on the woodwork in the dining room. After today, we’re ready to move out of this room and onto the others… clearing space for us turning the dining room into our makeshift kitchen, for the next few several months.
Brief night at the house. While Bob was working in the basement, I was upstairs clearing out an area he had marked for the furnace room (which will be situated between the two bedrooms).
At the house yesterday, Bob got some additional ductwork started. This is a ‘T’ that will split from the furnace, with one half pointing towards the back of the house and the other towards the front.
Bob picked up a new AC coil today – though it’s still pretty chilly out, the AC components also end up getting installed as part of the process. Air conditioning isn’t something we’re really thinking about at the tail end of winter, but this will be nice to have once the weather gets warmer. If it ever gets warmer.
Worked on the house a bit tonight, and was trying to take apart a doorframe to one of the closets, upstairs. Guess I don’t know my own strength.
One of the floor joists was cut by the prior owner, and it was kind of just hanging there – not really providing much support at all, and leaving the other nearby joist to take on a majority of the weight. As a result, the floor was bowing a little bit.
In clearing out the rooms, there was a lot of extra “stuff” that Liz and Julie had found when they donned Tyvek suits and cleaned out the attic.
