Early Christmas in Detroit, 2023

A bit later on in the evening. I realized I hadn’t gotten any photos of Sandy, who continues to be the best dog ever. For a good part of our stay, she was curled up in her bed in front of the fireplace. Which, let’s be honest… if I could get away with doing something like that, I’d do that all week long.
We had some time alone at the lake house with Grace. But tonight, she was working an evening shift (3PM – 11PM)… so Liz and I decided to take a stroll on the beach by ourselves (with Sandy in tow). We didn’t quite stay long enough for the sunset, but were out a good while in the early evening.
Late in the afternoon, a few of us decided to wander over to the beach for a walk… to catch the sunset.
Group photo, from the last day at the lakehouse before everyone departs for home. L to R it’s Anne, Kirt, Jackson, Sandy, me, Liz, and Grace.

Pretty slow day today. Kirt, Anne, Jackson and Grace arrived last night. Most of today was just lazing around and hanging out in front of the fireplace.
With us working a lot the last few days, today ended up being a pretty slow and laid back kind of day. The sky was cloudy, the forecast called for rain… so we spent a lot of the day just hanging out inside. Chatting a little, reading a little. And more than one nap took place.
A view of the chaos, from above.
I also got to sit in the recliner, which is the one spot Sandy is allowed to climb up on. So between Sandy and the blanket, I was extra warm. Best seat in the house, IMO.
Very slow day overall. Took a nap in the late afternoon, and that pretty much summed up the pace for the day.
Mid-morning today, I was down in the basement with Kirt helping to set up the Super Chexx machine. For all the time I’ve spent playing this game, this was my first time actually touching the puck (pretty cool).
I didn’t end up taking a lot of photos this weekend. I was planning, originally, to start that sentence with “sadly” but I’m wondering now if this was a bad thing. I ended up enjoying the moment more, and wasn’t as focused on trying to document the moment.
Around the tree in the sitting room, Kirt had set up an old model train track. The train cars themselves were all pretty substantive, and suggested to me this was an old set.
We left a little early this week, to spend a long weekend in Whitehall, MI, with Kirt and Anne at their new lakehouse. Liz and I both worked from home on Thursday, then hit the road around 4PM.
