Catching Up with Ben and Allison

Left work a little early to make it out to Ben and Allison’s, to catch up a bit with them. While I’ve had some brief visits with family, I haven’t really had any kind of extended social gathering.

Earlier in the week, Allison texted a bunch of folks about an idea she had for a website. After some back and forth, the concept turned into a “let’s talk about this in person” get-together for the weekend. And next thing you know, it was a party.
A few weeks back, we set up a brunch date to hang out with Ben and Allison at their house.
On Saturday, we had plans to hang out with Ben and Allison for a noon lunch. To our surprise, Chris was also over there when we arrived (he had swung by to play some pinball, as two of his machines are stored out in their garage).
The idea came up for multiple people to all get similar full-size t-shirts… and incredibly, people started to order them independently (from The Mountain and Fab). Meagan had the excellent idea that everyone would hang out at a bar together somewhere (karaoke, maybe), and each shirt would slowl be revealed through a series of photos posted onto Flickr or Facebook. With Chris humongo Allison-faced shirt being the last image in the set.
We met up with Liz, and a group of us walked over to Chicago Curry House for a nice lunch. It was a brief visit, but a lovely way to close out the week – sharing a meal with old friends (and the new guy).
On Tuesday, there was a ceremony in the afternoon for a big occasion: Ben had hit his 10 year mark at Emmis Interactive, and was to receive his 10-year watch. We had several folks from Emmis Corporate in town yesterday (in particular our CEO Jeff Smulyan, who would be the one to give Ben the watch).
