Starting A New Job for the First Time in a Decade

A few weeks ago, I interviewed for a web developer position with Sears. And I’m happy to say that I start work on tomorrow – Monday morning.

I’ll be honest – I’m nervous. I’ve been away from coding for a while now, so there’s a part of me that’s a little overwhelmed at how much there is to learn, and how much I feel I need to learn. But there’s another part of me that’s pretty excited – to be in an environment where I’ll be working again, actually rolling up my sleeves, getting my hands dirty and making things. It’s daunting and exciting, in equal measure to me.

A Strange Compulsion to Clean

I spent a large part of today cleaning around the apartment. Picked up the kitchen, clearing the counters of nearly everything save a toaster. Cleaned the stovetop, cleared out the dishwasher, did the remaining dishes by hand, swept up the floor, vacuumed the living room, etc.

Here’s the thing though: I loathe cleaning. And now, with all the time in the world… I’ve largely avoided my computer the last few days and mostly occupied myself with running errands and making the apartment more presentable.
