While near their house in Valparaiso, we were going down a small road when Liz yelled “Look out for that animal!”
As we got a bit closer, she yelled out “It’s a chicken!”
Midway through the morning, I realized I had become a nerd cliche – a middle aged man, sitting in his parents’ (in-law’s) basement, working on the computer in the dark. It felt like I was killing time, waiting for my friends to come over so we could play Dungeons and Dragons.
To avoid travel during rush hour, I opted to wake up early… drive out to Valpo and work there. I’d start a little early, and knock off a little early, and be able to go right into moving things after my work day.
Did Meagan get in trouble for not doing something? Is it just good-natured ribbing, with someone making fun of her? Or is there a bigger story, perhaps some kind of epic fail that Meagan triggered?
Liz and I trekked over to Valpo late in the afternoon today. We were slated to help move some furniture, to get the home TV/Internet wired up again, and to exchange Christmas gifts. Wtih everyone’s holiday travel plans, coupled with the fact that Julie and Bob were getting new floors – the timing just hadn’t been good for us to get together, until this weekend.
I got a text from Bob on Friday, and after work I ended up swinging by Valpo as an extra pair of hands. On arriving, I found a lot of the new floor installed, with lots of extra wood planks waiting to be installed.
Given the snow we got yesterday, and the snow coming down today… it was an interesting drive out. On my way there, I got caught behind a convoy of plows – which was both a good and bad thing.
Julie ended up taking the wheel while Dan was pushing and I was at the back of the truck. For a little while, I was trying to jump up/down on the truck, to see if that would help get it to catch the plywood. But we ended up rocking it enough to where Julie was able to get the truck up a small hill and back on solid ground again.
The day was super humid, and there were a ton of mosquitoes. They’ve woken up in Chicago too, with the recent rains, so it may be that time of year again. But right along the back of the house, they were just swarming. Bob and I both took a small bath of bug spray, and that mostly kept them at bay.
This weekend, on our way back from my grandma’s 105th birthday celebration, Liz and I stopped over in Valparaiso. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to time out meeting up with Julie, Bob, Tricia, and the kids again… but since we were in the neighborhood we decided to make a (tech support) pit stop.
We are on a bit of a road trip, visiting family in both Valparaiso and Indianapolis. Last night, we stopped to stay the night in Valpo and visited with Tricia (who is in town with Sebastian, Audrey, and Paige).
On Sunday, Liz and I drove over to visit Julie and Bob for Father’s Day. We started off with a late lunch (or early diner) at Industrial Revolution.
A big moving day, but Bob and Julie are officially in their new place. Lots of boxes, lots of things to arrange… but this is an exciting next chapter for them. Looking forward to visiting, and seeing the new place when everyone is all settled.
