Vimeo has posted their 25 Favorite Videos of 2009. I’m slowly going through them, and really enjoying the quality of both the videos and the stories within each. So far, my favorite has been the music video for “Luv Deluxe,” by Cinnamon Chasers. Interesting sidenote: one of the videos to make the list was something I mentioned on the blog…

Wow! Just learned there’s a new Terry Gilliam movie coming out! It’s called The Imagniarium of Doctor Parnassus. You may know Gilliam from some of his earlier films (Time Bandits, Brazil, 12 Monkeys, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas) or possibly his even earlier involvement with Monty Python’s Flying Circus. I remember Time Bandits as a kid, and have had…

Apparently, this is two years old… but the first time I’m seeing it. I’ll Be Gone is a music video by Rimantas Lukavicius (KORB), who did all the CGI work. [via MetaFilter]

The TV Show, a music video by Sugimoto Kousuke, is a sight to behold. What starts off as separate scenes slowly combines to produce an incredibly frenetic, fast-paced blur that will have you slowly smiling (and will have your jaw slowly dropping) over the course of 3 minutes. Stellar stuff. [via MetaFilter]

This makes me feel so good, it’s hard to describe. It’s the same feeling I got when I saw Discovery Channel’s “I Love the Whole Word” video – it’s a deep down, core, to-my-toes kind of good feeling. I have a deep respect for Carl Sagan, thanks to my old college roommate Jim. And hearing these scientists, and hearing their…

This video is by Dan Chung, a staff photographer for The Guardian. Chung also has a site called DSLR News Shooter that serves as a place for photographers to share examples and discuss working with HD DSLR cameras. A lot of the DSLR News Shooter site is way over my head, in terms of the technical stuff. But it’s amazing…

I’ve just spent the past 20 minutes totally sucked in to this video of Clay Shirky, talking about the ways technology and the Internet are changing the way we communicate. Here’s a taste: “What matters here isn’t technical capital, it’s social capital. These tools don’t get socially interesting until they get technologically boring. I tisn’t when the shiny new tools…

This video by David Coiffier made the rounds last month, but bears viewing if you haven’t seen it. I’m not exactly sure on the specs of the video camera, but it seems that the Rugby shots were one at 1000 fps (frames per second), and the red jelly was done at 2500 fps. What I love about this video is…

I’m not one who generally gets all hot and excited by tilt-shift stuff, but this particular video successfully won me over. At first, watching it I was thinking “ok, this is nice, this is neat.” But when the subject matter shifts to the Westpac Rescue Helicopter (around 1:02), it becomes an entirely different video. And it’s got a great soundtrack…

Using some sketches and a whole hell of a lot of persistence, Mike Carano convinced all the necessary Paramount studio execs (as well as Nimoy and Shatner) to let him stage a live version of the Star Trek episode Spock’s Brain. The result? A whole lot of live action awesomeness. The timing of the cast is absolutely hysterical, and the…

WGN-TV news anchors Robert Jordan and Jackie Bange have a little routine they do, during their first commercial break. What began as a 10 second dance morphed into a fully choreographed 2:40 routine. Apparently, this happens each time they go on air, during the first commercial break. Hysterical. [via Gapers Block and Chicago Tribune] // Edit: This used to be…

A while back, I came across an art piece by Omer Fast entitled “CNN Concatenated.” It’s a stitchwork of different anchors on CNN, each speaking one word snippets. The overall effect is both mesmerizing and super-creepy, in an Orwellian Fortune Teller sort of way. It’s a bit like found poetry, but using video. The version below is super crappy in…

I watched this twice, and laughed hard both times. Ever since, I’ve not been able to get the “Butternut Reduction” melody out of my head. [via]
