Blue Line: Denied

So it’s a slow day in the office. Jill is off to New York by noon, and Ben has been on vacation all week. Justin, since he had to work on his actual birthday, took the day off.

All quiet on the Interactive front.

Around 4:30 PM, I get a phone call from Katie, who’s asking to see what’s going on for the evening. She stops in before her shift at 5:00 PM, and the three of us (her, me, and Matt) chat out the rest of the work day. I’m feeling pretty low and all I really care about is getting some sleep soon. I stop by to say goodbye on my way out, and head off to the train.

Here’s what I was greeted with:

I’m still not sure what caused things to delay (fire? power failure?), but I waited for a bit and listened to the folks around me gossip. Accordingly, one guy stated that everyone had been waiting around for upwards of 20-25 minutes. After snapping a few photos, I decide that I don’t want to wait.

I head back up the escalator, walk back to the Merchandise Mart, and get that old itch for a drink. After all, the universe seems intent on preventing my return home, and is pushing me towards a bar.

I stop by Q101, find Katie, and the two of us head out to the Shamrock. She’s slated to work with Fook this evening, but he got someone else (Chris) to sub for him. Subsequently, Katie opted out and the two of us hung
for a bit.

We hung out for what, in retrospect, was a good long while. We started in when there was light, and it was kind dark when we left, so I figure that equals a "good long while." My three shots of Jim Beam to her two Raspberry Stoley’s + lemonade.

Good converastions. We talked about the radio biz some more, about working with/editing audio, and generally living on a skimpy budget. Since she’s interning this summer (and working without pay), she’s trying to stretch her money as much as possible. We traded some stories (grad school, and the various types of "experimental" meals you make out of whatever is lying around), and discussed the upcoming year. A bit later, we got into talking about old friends, relationships, and where we were before finding ourselves sitting across a table in Chicago.

Before leaving, we matched plans about Justin’s birthday party this Sunday, and exchanged numbers. There’s going to be a great, big, gathering of fantastic people in two days, and I can’t wait.

Alright. I feel like I’ve completely rushed through the past twelve hours. Hopefully, this is a decent assessment and not some cheap recap. I’m sipping on a beer right now, and feeling incredibly sleepy.
