Guilty Secret #13

I saw Elizabeth McCracken read some of her work at the Grandview Public Library, in Columbus, OH. This was around 2000, back when I was still a graduate student at Ohio State University. I liked her work a great deal, and went to the reading with the full intention of throwing myself at her. Throughout the reading, I wasn’t sure what to say, what to do (the best idea I had was to ask her if she wanted to grab a drink with me at Larry’s). When the time came, I got in line with my book and asked for her autograph. As she signed my book, I chickened out, thanked her, and left.

I’m still regretting that cowardice to this day.
