Sunday is New Electronics Day

A big shopping day today. Liz and I were out for most of the afternoon, hitting the stores around North Avenue and Clybourn (we made sure to be careful about where we parked).
Lots of clothes shopping, and also stopped in to Best Buy to get a few electronics. I got a new Sony DVD player that upsamples, and after watching a few DVDs since the install… I’ve been pretty happy with the upgrade.
Even though Blue-Ray’s won the race, I’m not quite ready yet to plunk down $400 for a fancy shmancy DVD player. At least, not yet. But $80 for a newer player that upsamples my old DVDs – that’s an easier pill to swallow.

I know you didn’t just drop Best Buy money on an HDMI cable from Monster. Monster’s a racket! HDMI is a purely digital stream, meaning it’s either on or off – there is no such thing as a “high-quality” HDMI cable because it either works or it doesn’t (assuming you’re running like a 6 foot length and not, say, 200 feet). Pop that back in the package and go get a perfectly good HDMI cable from monoprice for $6-8!
chris (May 26, 2008 at 10:03 pm)I did buy a Monster cable, and had no idea about the HDMI thing. Serves me right for not doing my research. Jebus!I figured this was a wash, as I had thrown out all the packaging earlier in the day. But it’s 12:13 AM right now, and I just went outside to the dumpster and was able to get the original packaging (it was safely tucked away, inside the DVD box). Thanks for the catch Chris! I feel a right fool for throwing down that kind of money, looking back on things in hindsight. Back it goes. Monoprice… here I come.
