UltraCrib II Giveaway
Most contests, this would be the grand prize. For Q101’s UltraCrib giveaway, this is only one of many prizes. Not only do you get the car, but you get a nice little apartment where you can rest after a long day of just driving around BECAUSE YOU OWN A BWM.
Interior. I’m not one who really gets into cars, but sweet jebus – that’s one fine looking vehicle. Will I ever own a car like this? No. Will I ever buy a car like this? No. Would I turn down a car like this if someone gave it to me? No.
And in case you get tired of your fancy car, they threw in a Ducati motorcycle. You know, just to change things up a bit. So you don’t get bored. :|
Registration. Here, people who are official finalists get their badges. Also, people can sign up for a final "drawing" to get into the finalist pool.
Outdoor seating. I think this was a reserved area for the finalists. Since I knew or recognized most of the station folks (who were doing a lot of the security stuff), I got to roam pretty much wherever I wanted to.
Sherman, greeting everyone and trying to send the herd to the back, where the actual drawing is to take place.
Quick shot of the crowd. It was pretty dark in here, so most of the shots are blurry. I spoke with Stu briefly and he warned me that my flash might trigger some of the automatic lights he had set up. I tried to keep my flashing to a minimum… and I hope I didn’t fuck up too much of his shit. During key critical moments, I tried to hold back.
There were screens all over the place, and I really dug seeing the logos/type with the blueprint. The actual shots of the interior weren’t as appealing to me, and seemed a bit rough. Still, cool to see the concept executed in another medium.
Bar shot, nothern stairs. I was standing next to a guy who had clickers in each hand. When I asked him what he was doing, he told me he was tracking everyone who went upstairs/downstairs. If the number upstairs hit 100, he would have to stop anyone else from going up. He looked at me and said "We don’t want to have another… you know."
I was struck by how quickly the bar/club trajedies have entered into our national conscience, and how they even affected this guy to the point where he couldn’t even mention the bars by name. When people got upset when access was restricted, I felt pretty good that someone was keeping an eye out for that sort of thing.
Back outside for a breather, and a pic of the Q101 van.
Another crowd shot. I hung out by the stage for most of the event and, towards the end, actually climbed up and stood by where the finalists walked on.
Remember the door? Well here’s where everyone finds out their fate. A total of 101 finalists will get a chance to win the big prize. Each one will draw a key and, if they key works… the door will open and the siren will go off. Out of the 101 keys, only five will work.
Sherman (left) and J Love, warming up the crowd. Before they took the mic, everyone was sort of just roaming around out there. They livened things up, and got the place excited for the event.
hehehe I like this one. Catching Stu working, mid-flash.
Another shot of the crowd.
Turd warms up the crowd.
